The Knox County Sheriff's Office is investigating what happened to a teenager who was found unconscious next to a road in Washington.

Officials say the teenage girl was found at 9:15 Monday morning, along the West Washington Road. A passerby found the girl on the side of the road and was unable to get a response her. An ambulance was called to the scene and  EMTs determined that the girl had injuries consistent with being hit by a motor vehicle. She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. There was no vehicle found at the scene.
