Officials say both the homeowner and his daughter were near the grill, where the fire started.

Wells, Maine, Home Sustained Significant Damage in a Dramatic House Fire
The State Fire Marshal's Office says the fire at 149 Atlantic Avenue in Wells was reported just before 6 pm on Sunday, June 15, 2026.
Heavy fire and smoke were visible even before the fire trucks arrived.
The Wells Police Department posted a video of the fire to the department's Facebook page.
Houses to the immediate right and left of the residence also sustained damage from exposure to heat and fire.
The four-alarm fire brought in equipment and manpower from surrounding communities, as firefighters battled wind and the home's proximity to other residences.
Maine Fire Marshal's Office Says a Wells House Fire Was Started Accidentally
Investigators with the Maine State Fire Marshal's Office determined that the homeowner had just changed a propane tank and was preparing to grill when a fire erupted near the grill area, causing a small explosion.
Before the homeowner could retrieve a fire extinguisher, the fire rapidly intensified and spread to the home, causing significant damage.
Fire officials say the quick response and aggressive suppression efforts from the Wells Fire Department and assisting agencies prevented this fire from spreading further and causing even greater damage.
No firefighters or EMS personnel were injured during the incident.
The Wells Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal's Office have ruled the fire accidental.
