Missing Pennsylvania Woman & Dog Spent the Night in the Woods
The Maine Warden Service says a missing Pennsylvania woman and her dog, have been found safe.
27-year-old Carolyn Leigh Meadows, from West Chester, Pennsylvania was reported missing by her boyfriend, when she failed to return from a hike on Sunday in the area of Schoodic Beach on Donnell Pond in Franklin. Her 8-year-old chocolate lab was with her. They were found walking along Route 182 in Township 10, near Cherryfield, after they spent the night in the woods.
Officials say Meadows had planned to hike about two-and-a-half miles, starting in the Sullivan area, but ended up hiking over 8 miles. Once it got dark, she and the dog stopped walking and found a safe place in the woods to spend the night. Once the sun came up, she continued hiking until she reached Route 182, and then she and the dog followed the road until they were discovered by a passing motorist just before 9:30 Monday morning. By that time, she had travelled over 10 miles.
Both Meadows and her dog were in good health and didn't need any medical attention. They were taken back to their campsite by the Maine Warden Service, who had been assisted in the search by the Maine State Police, Maine Marine Patrol, Schoodic Region Fire and Rescue, and Acadia National Park.
