Overnight Detour on Broadway in Bangor, Maine, is Caused by Water Main Repairs
For more than a year, Bangor commuters have become accustomed to traffic challenges on Broadway, as road crews work to install a new overpass.
So it would be easy to assume that's what's going on here.

But this is a different project.
City officials say a water main on Broadway needs to be replaced, causing a significant detour.
Broadway in Bangor, Maine, Detour Will Affect Outbound Drivers

Traffic traveling outbound (northbound) on Broadway between 7 pm on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, and approximately 6 am on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, will be affected.
Those drivers will be diverted onto Stillwater Avenue, by Broadway Park, and then left onto Essex Street.
Motorists will travel along Essex until turning onto Grandview Avenue (by Bangor High School), before re-entering Broadway.
The repairs should be completed before the Wednesday morning commute.

Bangor road crews are busy doing paving projects around the city, as well, which could slow traffic in affected areas.
The locations of those projects are posted about once a week on the City of Bangor Facebook page to give drivers a heads-up about where they might find paving crews during the week.
