Indiana Father Charged for Maine Crash That Killed His 5-Year-Old Child

A man from Indiana is facing multiple charges for a crash in Maine that claimed the life of his 5-year-old.

Maine Police Charge Indiana Man for a Fatal Crash in Hancock County

Dion Campbell, 33, of Elkhart, Indiana, had his two children in the vehicle as he drove through Hancock County, Maine, on June 25, 2026.

He's now facing charges for a crash that happened at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 193 in TWP 22, just before 11:30 pm.

The initial investigation indicated that Campbell failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection and hit an embankment.

Campbell's 5-year-old son was located in the front passenger seat and was deteriorating rapidly, so Troopers began life-saving measures until EMS could arrive.

Sadly, the child was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Campbell and his 10-month-old daughter were transported to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with non-life-threatening injuries.

Maine State Police spokesperson Shannon Moss says the investigation suggests that neither child was properly restrained at the time of the crash.

Indiana Man Charged with Manslaughter for Fatal Crash in Maine

Dion Campbell was arrested on Monday night and charged with the following:

• Manslaughter
• Criminal OUI
• Aggravated driving to endanger
• Endangering the welfare of a child.

He was transported to the Hancock County Jail, where he remains without bail, pending his first court appearance on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
