Bernie Sanders Jokes, 'Bring Back an Independent Moxie,'

The senator from Vermont appeared in a recent video trying Maine’s favorite soda, saying he hadn’t had one in years.

In a video posted to Democratic Senate nominee Graham Platner’s social media pages on June 27th, Platner and Senator Bernie Sanders appear inside a convenience store, where Sanders asks for Moxie and says he has not had one in years.

After Platner hands him a bottle, Sanders jokes that the soda is “full of nutrients” before trying it and referencing Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the Trump administration’s “Make America Healthy Again” public health initiative.

The video continues with Sanders joking about corporate ownership and saying, “Bring back an independent Moxie! For Maine and America!”

The remark appears to reference The Coca-Cola Company’s 2018 acquisition of the Moxie brand, which Coca-Cola of Northern New England had previously owned following its 2007 purchase from Monarch Beverage Corp.

And there you have it! Bernie Sanders appeared in a video posted to Graham Platner’s social media pages, trying Moxie for the first time in what he said had been years.
