Two People Killed In Separate Weekend Accidents

Two people were killed on Maine's roads over the weekend, in Hollis and Lebanon.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the first accident happened on Friday in the town of Lebanon. A man lost control of his pickup truck on the Center Road and it overturned. Passersby stopped and freed the driver, who was trapped under the truck, but he died at the scene. A passenger in the truck was transported to Frisbee Hospital in Rochester, New Hampshire, and later released. Both men are from New Hampshire and had attended a marijuana festival in Lebanon. They left the event a few minutes before the crash. The name of the deceased man is being withheld, pending notification of family.

On Saturday night, State Police say a man was killed in a motorcycle crash in Hollis. 45-year-old Edward Stanhope died when his Harley Davidson went off Route 35 in Hollis on a curve and crashed into a tree. The accident was reported just before 11 p.m. and Troopers say speed and alcohol were likely factors. The Bureau of Highway Safety said this was the 11th motorcycle fatality of the year, which is one more than at this time last year.
