Bangor Police say the local branch of Penobscot County Federal Credit Union was robbed early Monday morning.

Joseph Vandam, 61, has been arrested in connection with the robbery that happened just before 8 a.m. at the Penobscot County Federal Credit Union branch located at 466 Main Street in Bangor. A male suspect walked into the credit union and gave a note to a teller, demanding money. The suspect then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police located a suspect matching the description of the robber while he walked on Main Street, a short distance from the credit union. Vandam, a transient, is charged with robbery and violation of conditions of release. He was out on bail, with conditions, stemming from an unrelated arrest. Vandam has been taken to the Penobscot County Jail.

No one was hurt in the incident.
