Maine Police are Investigating the Discovery of a Body By a Fire Pit

Maine Police are investigating after a man's body was found near a backyard fire pit in Southern Maine.

Authorities have not released the deceased's name.

Officials say the remains were transported to the Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy to determine the identity of the deceased, as well as the cause and manner of death.

Sanford, Maine Police Were Notified of a Deceased Male Near a Fire Pit

Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Shannon Moss says the Sanford Police Department responded to a residence on Twombley Road shortly after 5 am on Thursday, August 20th.

They had received a report of a deceased male who was located in the backyard, by a fire pit.

Officials have not commented on whether the man lived at the home where his body was found.

Maine Police Agencies are Investigating a Backyard Death in Sanford

Sanford Police notified the State Fire Marshal's Office, which then notified the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit to investigate.

Officials have not commented on a motive or cause of death but say there is no danger to the public.
