Suspects Who Allegedly Shot at a Sanford, Maine Still At Large

Sanford Police continue to search for suspects who allegedly fired a gun at one of their officers.

Sanford, Maine Police Officer Was Shot At During an Attempted Traffic Stop

The incident began just after 1:00 Tuesday morning when a Sanford Police officer tried to stop a vehicle near Shaw and Lebanon Streets.

The vehicle didn't stop, and one of the occupants allegedly fired a gun at the officer and the police cruiser.

Officials would later find the vehicle abandoned.

No officers were injured in the shooting.

Officials have not commented on the original reason for the attempted traffic stop.

Now, Sanford Police and members of neighboring law enforcement agencies are actively searching in Springvale and beyond for those involved.

A police K9 has been used in the search but failed to turn up any kind of lead to the whereabouts of the suspects.

Tuesday morning, the search was focused in the area of:

• Blanchard Road
• Hanson Ridge
• Oak Street
• Lebanon Street
• Sunset Road
• Smith Road 

Residents in the community are urged to remain alert and aware of their surroundings.

Sanford, Maine Police Urge Residents to Use Caution During a Suspect Search

Anyone who sees anyone or anything suspicious is urged to keep their distance and not approach, confront, or engage the individual(s), as they may be armed.

While a shelter-in-place order has not been issued, authorities are asking people to avoid the affected areas whenever possible and allow the officers to search.
