In an August 21 press release, Walmart announced it would begin adding Tap to Pay, including Apple Pay, as a payment option at select Walmart stores and Sam’s Club locations starting August 24th.
The company plans to expand the option to all U.S. stores and clubs by the end of 2026 and to fuel stations by mid-2027.

According to a memo to Walmart store management obtained by 9to5Mac, the retailer is planning a phased, state-by-state rollout of Tap to Pay, with Arkansas reportedly scheduled to receive the feature first during the week of August 24th.
Maine is currently set to be part of the final rollout wave on October 12th, along with 10 other states and Washington, D.C., though the dates could change if issues arise.

Tap to Pay gives Walmart and Sam’s Club shoppers another contactless payment option, allowing them to use eligible cards, phones or smartwatches at checkout.
The feature joins existing payment methods such as cash, credit cards, Walmart Pay, and Sam’s Club Scan & Go as the companies expand efforts to give customers more flexibility in how they pay and manage their money.

And there you have it! Apple Pay is finally coming to Walmart, with Maine stores reportedly getting it on October 12th.
