A Palmyra woman was killed yesterday afternoon when her vehicle crossed the center line and hit another head-on.

The accident happened at around noon on Route 2 in Palmyra, near the intersection with the Madawaska Road. Newscenter Maine reports a car driven by 69-year-old Linda Striga crossed the center line. The driver of a pickup swerved to avoid her car, but the two collided head-on. Striga was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.

The driver of the pickup, 48-year-old Darren Maxsimic of Kingfield was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. Route 2 was shut down for a couple of hours while police cleared the scene.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing, but police say speed and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the accident.
