One person was found deceased in a Mapleton house that was devastated by fire.

Maine Chief Medical Examiner to Identify the Victim of a Fatal Fire in Mapleton

The name of the deceased has not been released, pending an examination by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, who will also determine their cause and manner of death.

It was shortly after 5:00 am when the Mapleton/Castle Hill/Chapman Fire Department was called to 258 Carvell Road for a report of a house fire.

Washburn and Presque Isle Fire Departments provided mutual aid to battle the devastating fire.

As they battled the blaze, firefighters located a deceased adult female inside the home.

The victim has not yet been positively identified.

Investigators with the State Fire Marshal's Office are now working to determine the cause of the fire.

The house is a total loss.
