Netflix hosted The Roast of Kevin Hart, a live comedy event from the Kia Forum in Inglewood on Sunday, May 10th, as part of the final night of Netflix Is a Joke Fest.
The special was hosted by Shane Gillis and featured several roasters, including Chelsea Handler, Tony Hinchcliffe, and Pete Davidson.

Following the event, which received mixed reviews from critics, several comedians have shared their thoughts on the roast, including host Shane Gillis.
During a podcast appearance after the roast, Gillis said he regretted one racially charged joke about Kevin Hart and felt he should have left it out.
Gillis said he had tested the joke, “Kevin is so short, you’d have to lynch him from a bonsai tree,” during his stand-up shows before the roast.
Including at his sold-out shows at TD Garden in Boston in the days leading up to the event, he said the joke had “killed” everywhere he tried it, except on the night it mattered most.

And there you have it! While Shane Gillis tested the joke on tour before the roast, he admits it was a whiff on the night of the event.
