An Orrington resident felt that kids needed a fun destination in town, so he has created an arcade and game room.

In the 10 years that I've lived in Orrington, I've seen the community grow, with the addition of a variety of businesses. It's managed to keep its small-town feel, with a couple of local stores, coffee shop, and pizza/sub place where the adults gather to visit with their neighbors. But what about the kids? There's a playground at the Center Drive School, but older kids haven't really had any sort of entertainment in town.

Owner Devin Colavecchio told me he wanted to remedy that situation, so he found a space for rent in Orrington's strip mall on Route 15.

Seeing local kids wandering around with no place to go or a safe environment is the  inspiration behind the arcade. We want to continue to bring in new games and develop an atmosphere for children and families to feel safe and to have fun.

My husband and I have been in several times. He loves the pool table and I reluctantly play against him. He's great at pool, while I'm not good at all despite growing up with a pool table in my basement. He's trying to teach me. Thank goodness he's patient.

My love is the pinball machines, especially the Shrek machine that has a miniature pinball machine-within-the-machine. It's cool. We raced against each other on motorcycles and in cars. I ended up running my vehicle through a virtual office before sailing off the roof of a building. When we left...Jim got behind the wheel.

All in all, our visit to the Orrington Arcade and Game Room made me feel like a kid again, so I'm sure families are going to love it. Thanks to Devin for giving Orrington the game room we always wished we had in our basements at home.
