PlayCasino.com ranked states using the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2024 American Community Survey, calculating the share of residents ages 15 and older who reported a divorce in the previous 12 months.
The figures, checked Sept. 12, 2026, measure recent divorces across that population rather than the percentage of existing marriages that ended.

Maine had the third-lowest share of residents reporting a recent divorce among all 50 states.
With an estimated 6,338 people, or about one in 190 residents ages 15 and older, Maine’s share was about 21% below the national figure of roughly one in 150.
Maine was also one of just three states where the recent-divorce share was below 0.53%, according to the analysis.
Neighboring New Hampshire had a similar population in that age group but recorded an estimated 9,832 recent divorces, about 3,500 more than Maine, with a share roughly 55% higher, which ranked eighth nationally.

And there you have it! Maine’s recent-divorce share came in well below the national rate and ranked third-lowest in the country.
