A Bangor man is facing a domestic violence charge after allegedly assaulting a family member, for whom he was serving as a caretaker.

Ronald Rideout, 58, of Bangor, was arrested on Wednesday, September 16th.

He's charged with domestic violence aggravated assault for an incident involving a family member he was supposed to be caring for.

Bangor Police responded to a home on Palm Street, just before 5:30 am, for a report of a family member threatening another with a hammer.

Officers investigated the incident, including speaking with the other family member, who said he had the hammer for self-defense, in case Rideout came near him.

He said Rideout had allegedly assaulted him the night before, and that his breathing had been restricted by Rideout, who was acting as his caretaker.

The victim was taken to an area hospital due to pre-existing health issues related to his lack of care.

Rideout was arrested and taken to the Penobscot County Jail.
