
Maine Fire Depts Rescue 2 After a Canoe Capsized in Orrington
Fire crews in Orrington rescued two people from an island whose canoe had tipped over on Thursday.
Orrington Maine Fire Department Responds to 2 People Who Fell Out of a Canoe
The names of the people involved in this rescue were not released, but Orrington Fire & Rescue reported on the department's Facebook page that they were paddling the Sedgeunkedunk Stream on Thursday afternoon when they both fell out of their canoe.

Officials say both were able to get out of the water safely but they were cold. Rescue crews arrived at 4:48, five minutes after receiving the call for help, and discovered both people were out of the water and on a small island in the stream.
Brewer and Holden Fire Departments Called to Help Orrington Water Rescue
A first alarm was made to the Brewer Fire Department to bring their rescue boat 30 to the scene, and to Holden Fire for their rescue and personnel. Brewer Fire launched their boat behind Bucks Country Store at the canoe boat launch.

At approximately 5:20, both individuals were on the boat and brought to a waiting ambulance, where they were examined and released.
Maine Warden Service Cautions Water Temperatures are Dangerous in Spring
In a conversation recently with Maine Warden Lieutenant Jason Luce recently, he told me that the water temperatures are very dangerous right now. Even people who could typically swim well enough to survive a boating accident would find their extremities going numb in a matter of minutes.
He said it's important for people, in any type of boat, to wear their life jackets and to have a way to contact others for help. This would include having a whistle or horn, and keeping your cellphone in a baggy or other waterproof container.
