Maine Democrats Name Candidate Troy Jackson as the Nominee for U.S. Senate

The convention was organized by the Maine Democratic Party after former candidate Graham Platner exited the race, due to allegations of sexual misconduct.

The field of candidates was broad, until just before the convention when four dropped out.

Nirav Shah, Dan Kleban, and Jordan Wood all threw their support behind Jackson, while Shenne Bellows said she could better serve the public by concentrating on her job as Secretary of State.

Maine Democrats Gathered in Bangor to Nominate Graham Platner's Replacement

On Saturday, July 25, 2026, delegates from each state gathered at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor and voted for the candidate who would replace Platner in the race.

When it was all said and done, Troy Jackson was named the Democratic candidate to take on Senator Susan Collins in November.

Jackson is a logger from Aroostook County, who's served twenty years in the legislature, six as Senate President.

He lives in Allagash with his partner Lana and their two grown sons.

Maine Democratic Convention Decides Between a Wide Field of Candidates

Troy Jackson defeated several other candidates, including Ashley Webb, Saundra Pelletier, Kristina Libby, Joseph Leveille, Elizabeth Dickerson, Elizabeth Cote, and David Costello.

In November, he hopes to unseat incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins, who has served as the senior U.S. Senator for Maine since 1997.
