A Maine man is facing felony charges after leading police on a chase that began in New Hampshire.

Maine Man Leads Police Pursuit From New Hampshire to Maine

Justin T. French, 40, of Lebanon, Maine, is facing charges in both states after the incident that began just before 2:30 p.m. on Friday, November 14.

A New Hampshire State Police Trooper noticed a Toyota Camry being driven recklessly on Gonic Road, also known as Route 125, in Rochester. After the driver refused to stop, the Trooper began a pursuit.

The vehicle exited Spaulding Turnpike and continued to travel erratically as it passed through Rochester and crossed into Lebanon, Maine.

French then stopped the vehicle in a driveway and fled. New Hampshire State Police Sergeant Gary Wood Jr. then deployed his partner, K-9 Ida, who apprehended the suspect.

Maine Man Faces Multiple Charges After 2-State Police Pursuit

Police say French appeared to be impaired and was wanted on multiple outstanding bench warrants in New Hampshire for failing to appear.

After being taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Justin French was charged with:

  • Felony reckless conduct
  • Aggravated driving under the influence of drugs
  • Disobeying an officer
  • Operating after suspension - subsequent offense
  • and Contempt - breach of bail conditions.

In addition, Maine authorities charged French with fleeing after a pursuit. He's being held at the Strafford County Department of Corrections in New Hampshire.

Maine Woman Summonsed After Police Pursuit From New Hampshire to Maine

The passenger in the vehicle, Katanna Murphy, 24, of Lebanon, Maine, was charged with violation of allowing an improper person to operate. Murphy is listed as the owner of the Toyota.

She was released on a summons to appear in Rochester District Court in January.
