Her injuries were serious enough for officials to send her by LifeFlight to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.

The other victims of the crash included a 29-year-old man, a 5-year-old child, and a 3-month-old infant.

An investigation into the incident determined that the vehicle had traveled through the intersection, left the roadway, and drove into the sidewalk, striking the family of four as they were walking.

Maine Driver Was Allegedly Using Drugs Before Hitting 4 People With His Vehicle

After conducting field sobriety tests, and an Intoxilyzer test, officials determined the driver, Carl Hartley, was not under the influence of alcohol.

However, a certified Drug Recognition Expert from the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office observed signs consistent with drug impairment.

Hartley declined to participate and so a warrant was obtained to collect a blood sample.

A search of the vehicle resulted illegal drugs that tested positive for methamphetamine and additional drug-related contraband.

Officials say this investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.
