Happy Day after Mother’s Day. Hope every mother reading this got all she wanted for the day. Whether it was just a visit from family, who hopefully brought flowers and chocolate and whatever else you desire.

Or whether it was time alone. Time for self. Time to rest and relax.

But today, it’s back to work Mom

And a new study says that Maine women work over 20 hours more than they did just 5 years ago. Is that even possible?

Maine women have increased their work hours by 20 hours a week in the comparison from 5 years ago from Mixbook.  Yes the study covers ‘The Pandemic Years’ so maybe that is why the numbers have gone up so much.

With more working from home or hybrid work, there is less commute time, and maybe that adds the additional hours.

Maybe more women have moved into jobs that require more work, meaning they are breaking through the glass ceiling. Let’s hope it is more financially rewarding too.

Or maybe due to financial reasons women are taking less vacations from their jobs, and therefore that contributes to working more hours than 5 years ago.

If you are one of the women working many more hours than previously, here is hoping that you can maintain a balance between work and leisure activities.

May is mental health month. We need a whole month to get educated to how working too much and having less time for yourself is very stressful, and not good for general mental health.

Maybe we all need to look at adding personal days to our time off schedules. Unplanned personal days, not counted as vacation days, that allow us to rest and re-charge and focus on ’us’ not everything and everybody else.
