Everyone is invited to don their best witch costumes and walk from Brewer to Bangor in order to take part in the Witch Dance.

What is the Maine Witch Walk?

The last Maine Witch Walk was held in 2019 before the pandemic caused everything to be canceled. A proud Brewer witch, I was there, with my camera in hand, to record the fun. And that's what this is all about. Fun. It's about getting together with friends and strangers in fun costumes to shake your butt and broom and feel some camaraderie and connection to others.

How Does It Work?

The day starts out with putting on your witch clothes. It can be elaborate or very simple. Whatever you want to do. During the last walk, I was really impressed with the costumes, which included fancy witch hats, black dresses and pants, and lots of striped socks.

A broom is not necessary, although it is fun to shake when the dancing starts. Once you're dressed, head to the parking lot of Tozier's Market, 87 South Main Street in Brewer, to meet up with everyone else. You'll spend a little time there, learning the 'Witch Dance' before walking across the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge and ending up on the Bangor Waterfront. This is where the dance happens. In 2019, it looked like this.

Does It Cost Anything to Take Part?

Jill Packard, owner of Charmed in Brewer, one of the event sponsors, says they're asking people to pre-register this year, so they can have a good count going into the event. The event will take place on Oct 29 from 2 pm. to 5 p.m.

We want to be as prepared as possible ensuring everyone's safety, which in turn helps everyone have a good time.

It doesn't cost anything to take part, but donations are accepted for the Hemophilia Alliance of Maine. Sign up today and start planning your wardrobe, so you can shake your 'Boo' thing and work your magic on the Bangor Waterfront.
