It's a happy ending to a potentially tragic story: a puppy left in a dumpster at the Hampden Marina now has a loving family.

An Extremely Young Puppy Was Abandoned at a Hampden, Maine Marina

When I first heard about the very young puppy that was abandoned in a trash receptacle in Hampden, I was speechless.

I couldn't imagine why anyone would leave a puppy in such a vulnerable place.

I've been told she had dog toys with her in the trash can, so I want to assume the last owner knew they couldn't care for her and put her in a public place where she would be found.

Still, it's a miracle she was found.

That's the sad part of the story.

The happy ending came when the dog, now known as 'Venus,' was discovered by the right couple.

Before you ask, it's not me and my husband.

This couple took her home and showed her that love still exists.

I'm not going to identify them, out of respect for their privacy, but I will say that Venus is one lucky girl.

Maine Puppy Left in a Trash Can in Hampden Had to Be Bottle Fed

When they found her, Venus couldn't eat solid food, so they fed her with a baby bottle.

She snuggles into her new parents' necks and did the same to me when I had the chance to hold her.

Venus's new family makes me believe that there are still good people in the world who care about the innocent and the vulnerable.

Thank you for rescuing Venus and giving her an amazing home.

And thanks for letting me meet her. She is one super sweet girl.
