My 2025 Favorite Photo of the Year Celebrates Wild Maine
An unexpected photo immediately became my favorite in 2025 because it celebrates the proximity of wildlife in Maine.
Maine is a Great Place for Photographers
It's amazing when you find something you're truly passionate about. For me, it's photography.
I can almost always be found with a camera nearby. And if I don't have my camera, my phone will do.

Nature photography is my favorite, including pictures of animals, flowers, and even insects. That last one may sound weird, but it's pretty cool when you can get a close-up look at something like a grasshopper.
They look like little aliens.
At the end of the year, I like to look back over my pictures and pick out some of my favorites.
Inspiration for Photographers is Everywhere in Maine
In 2025, I got a pretty awesome shot with my phone that looks like I used my camera. This shot of apple blossoms won first place in the Orrington Old Home Week Photo contest. But it's not my favorite of the year.
The colors of these berries that I found at Ecotat Gardens in Hermon were so striking, I could resist a shot. Still....not my favorite.
There was this regal goat from a farm in Orrington who posed for his photo. Not my favorite, but I really like this guy.
Maine Deer Photos are My Favorite
A close second this year was this shot of a Mama Doe shielding her very nervous youngster.
So, I've made you wait long enough. My favorite photo of the year happened unexpectedly.
My husband and I were out looking for deer. I was lining up a shot for a couple of does across a neighor's yard, when this girl popped her head up from behind a bush, right in front of me.
Framed by the branches of a tree, it's one of the best photos I've ever taken. (in my opinion) I love it so much, it's on my wall at work.
Here's to more fun photography in 2026!
