One Person is Dead After a Plane Crash in Bristol, Maine

Officials say one person was killed and one survived a plane crash off the coast of Bristol, in Lincoln County.

The names of those involved have not been released, but officials say they were both males.

According to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, the pilot passed away, and the only passenger was injured.

The plane came to rest upside down in about 4 feet of water, close to shore.

WMTW-TV reports several people in the area witnessed the crash and rushed into the water to help those inside.

They were able to get the pilot out of the plane but, despite their efforts, he died at the scene.

The one male passenger got out on his own and was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Plane Traveling from Brunswick to Knox County Crashed off the Coast of Bristol, Maine

Officials say the Diamond DA20 had departed from Brunswick Airport and was headed to Knox County Airport when it apparently experienced a mechanical failure.

The crash remains under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation and Safety Board.
