Maine Deputy on Leave After Shooting an Armed Man

A Maine man who allegedly chased his wife with a gun is recovering after being shot by a deputy.

The Oxford County Sheriff's Office has identified the suspect as Aric Junkins, 40, of Brownfield.

He's charged with:

• Domestic violence reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon
• Criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon (2 counts)
• Domestic violence terrorizing
• Terrorizing

Junkins was taken to the hospital after the confrontation on Monday.

Officials say the charges stem from an incident at 11 Porter Road in Brownfield, where several agencies responded to a report of a man allegedly chasing his wife around with a gun.

The Oxford County Sheriff's Office was joined in the response by members of the Maine State Police, Maine Warden Service, and Fryeburg Police Department.

When confronted by law enforcement, Junkins allegedly pointed his weapon in their direction and was shot in the hands by Oxford County Deputy Andre Chasse.

Junkins was treated briefly at the scene before being transported to Bridgton Hospital. He was then transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Deputy Chasse was placed on administrative leave, as is standard procedure in all law enforcement-involved shootings, pending the outcome of an investigation.
