A Maine man is facing charges after allegedly trying to withdraw nearly $7K of someone else's money from a bank in New York.
Maine Man Arrested in Utica, New York After Banking Incident
Wayne Curtis, 66, of Gardiner, Maine, was arrested in upstate New York, after an incident involving alleged identity theft.

Utica Police received a report on November 4, 2025, from a local bank reporting that a man was trying to use an out-of-state driver's license to withdraw nearly $7,000. The bank teller immediately became suspicious, due to the nature and amount of the transaction.
Maine Man Arrested for Allegedly Using a Stolen License for a Bank Withdrawal
Bank employees contacted the person whose license was being used and whose account was involved in the transaction, and learned that the person's wallet had been stolen.
The man confirmed to the bank that he was not at the bank, and that he did not authorize the transaction being attempted by the Mainer.
The bank then notified the police, who took Mr. Curtis into custody.
Maine Man Faces Charges for Alleged New York Bank Fraud
An investigation into the circumstances resulted in Curtis being charged with:
- Forgery in the second degree
- Identity theft in the second degree
- Attempted grand larceny in the third degree
This incident remains under investigation.
