A former Eddington man was arrested in Alabama in connection with a fire last year at the Heritage on 9 restaurant.

Man Suspected of Setting Fire to the Eddington, Maine, Eatery Was Living in Alabama

Luther Green, 59, of Banks, Alabama, is charged with arson and burglary in connection with the 2024 fire. Green used to live in Eddington, Maine.

The Maine Fire Marshal's Office worked with the Pike County, Alabama, Sheriff's Office to take Mr. Green into custody on an active arrest warrant. He's been flown back to Maine and is currently at the Penobscot County Jail.

Eddington, Maine's Heritage on 9 Restaurant and Tavern Burned in July 2024

Officials say Green is suspected of setting a fire on July 3, 2024, that damaged the Heritage on 9 Restaurant and Tavern, which was located at 999 Main Road in Eddington. The business had closed in 2023 and was not occupied when the fire broke out. No one was injured in the incident.

A passerby who originally thought a nearby church was on fire reported the blaze just before 2:00 that morning. When crews arrived, they found the building fully involved, with the heaviest fire in the bar area.

Maine Fire Marshals Says the Eddington Fire Investigation Took Nearly a Year

Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Shannon Moss says the arrest follows a year-long investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office, highlighting the complex and detailed work involved in fire investigations.

This incident remains under investigation.
