How Maine Kids Can Get Free Books Monthly in the Mail
This incredible program provides free books to children up to age 5, all free, and mailed to their homes every month.
Maine Children Will Become Better Students If They Love to Read
Watching children develop a love for reading is one of the great pleasures in life, at least for me. I read to children whenever I can and love it when they ask for another story.
Reading can take children to fantastic places, feed their imaginations, and help them become better students as they grow. In a world that revolves around screens and online activities, the simple joy of sitting and reading a book is in danger of getting lost for the younger generations.
Maine's Local Chapters of the Imagination Library Raise Funds for the Free Books
My First Bookshelf is helping kids develop a love for reading by providing free books to children ages 0 to 5 in Penobscot County. In truth, they pay for the books, which are chosen and mailed by Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
Governor Mills' Administration even worked with Dolly Parton's people to bring the Imagination Library to Maine, in partnership with the Maine State Library, and covers 50% of the cost of the books.
Mainers Can Sign Up For Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, Regardless of Income
There are no restrictions, other than age. Children must be five years old or younger to qualify, and all parents have to do is sign them up. There's no cost to register and no income requirements.
In other words, there's no reason not to do this.
Signing up is easy. Just log onto the website for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and click the tab for 'Check Availability.' Enter your location information and find out if there's a local chapter in your county.
