Folks itching to explore Fort Knox will have to wait a little longer.

Traditionally Fort Knox opens for the season May 1, but not this year. The opening date has been pushed to May 15, according to the Fort Knox Maine Facebook page. While the gate will remain locked, the surrounding grounds continue to be open to the public.

The Fort Knox website asks visitors to not visit if feeling ill, wash their hands frequently, and practice social distancing.

The Penobscot Narrows Observatory will not open until further notice, according to the Maine DOT.
