Bangor, Maine News Update: September 11, 2019
Presque Isle police say one of two suspects in a local shooting has been arrested, but the other remains at large. Jomo White of Georgia was arrested at a Presque Isle home on Tuesday, and police continue to search for Jason Alexander of Blaine. A 500 dollar reward is being offered for information that leads to his arrest.
Remembrances will be held around the state today, the anniversary of the 9-11 attacks, including ceremonies at Eastern Maine Community College, Harford Fire & Rescue station in Augusta, and at the Rockland Fire Department. In Belfast, the annual 9-11 Bridge walk will start at 8:30, including a 21 gun salute and the playing of TAPS.
A public information session in Brewer on Saturday aims to educate the public about Lyme Disease. A group of experts will address how to deal with the disease, especially in children. Doors open at 7:30 Saturday morning at Brewer Community School, with the conference running until 3:30.
A program at the Dedham School will use riding bicycles as a way to help kids with ADHD focus in the classrooms. The only school in the state to receive a grant from the Specialized Foundation Riding for Focus, the school received 27 mountain bikes with helmets. The theory is that long term physical activity will help the kids do better academically.
The Bar Harbor estate known as East of Eden sold at auction for just over 4 million dollars on Saturday, purchased by Portland real estate developer and philanthropist Art Girard and his wife Fran. He plans to sell the estate for what he paid, with the requirement that the buyer donate 400 thousand dollars, to be divided between two Portland-area charities.
