The Somerset County Sheriff's Office says a woman has been arrested in connection with a storage unit scam.

Sheriff Lancaster says community members contacted the department with information about the woman that helped to identify her. She has been arrested and charged with theft in connection with an alleged scam that involved ads that offered the sale of storage units in Palmyra. Officials say two people responded to the ads, expressing interest in buying the units. The complainants met with a woman they said appeared to be her in 40's and gave her money. At that point, she told them she had to get the key for the unit and left the scene.

Sheriff Lancaster advises always using caution when conducting transactions of this sort and make sure that you speak to the owner of the storage unit prior to exchanging any money. Anyone with questions or information pertaining to these cases is encouraged to contact the Somerset County Sheriff's Office at (207) 474-6386.
