A Houlton woman is accused of traveling to Southern Maine and attempting to transport heroin by bus back to the County.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says State Police and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency have charged 32-year-old Jessi Polchies in Portland and charged her with aggravated trafficking in heroin. She was taken into custody Saturday morning at the Portland Transportation Center as she was about to board a bus back home.

The arrest came as the result of an investigation into a group allegedly transporting heroin from Lawrence, Massachusetts into York County. Investigators learned that Polchies had traveled from Houlton to the Old Orchard Beach area in order to purchase some of that heroin to be taken back to the Houlton area to be sold. They arrested her when they learned that she was due to take a bus from Portland to Bangor Saturday morning.

Polchies was found in the lobby of the bus terminal and arrested on an outstanding warrant for operating after suspension of her driver's license. During the interview that followed, she admitted she had heroin on her and 30 grams of the drug were seized.

She was taken to the Cumberland County Jail where bail was set at $10,060. Polchies is due to make her first court appearance Monday in Portland. Officials say more arrests are expected in this case.
