A Windsor man remains in critical condition after striking a bridge while snowmobiling in Augusta.

Corporal John MacDonald with the Maine Warden Service says the accident happened Sunday afternoon at around 3:00 on the ice of Togus Pond. Wardens responded just to 89 Hayden Road to the scene of a crash on the ice that was very close to shore.

Officials say 52-year-old Douglas Morgan of Windsor reportedly struck his head on a low bridge on Hayden Road as he attempted to drive his sled underneath it. He was initially taken to Augusta General Hospital but was then transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment of serious head injuries. Wardens say Morgan was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Augusta Police and Augusta Fire and Rescue assisted game wardens with this incident. The crash remains under investigation.
