What is this Mystery Critter in the Road in Brewer? [VIDEO]

We think we know what it might be, but we are still puzzled. 

Wednesday morning this thing dashed into Parker St. in Brewer. At first our eye witness thought it was a squirrel because it was grey and about that size. But then it hoped like a rabbit and had no squirrel tail? But it couldn't be a rabbit because it had no rabbit ears! It could have been a small gopher, but it was grey.

So what the heck do you think it was? A wild rabbit with its ears tucked down? A tailless squirrel? A grey gopher? A mutant hybrid of all 3?!
