A Washington County man has been arrested for allegedly selling hydrocodone and fentanyl.

Jeffrey Bishop, 53, of Cherryfield is charged with four counts of aggravated furnishing of hydrocodone and fentanyl, and 1 count of unlawful trafficking in schedule W drugs. Bishop formerly served as a police officer for the city of Calais. The charges were elevated to aggravated because Bishop was allegedly trafficking within 1,000 feet of a school and also allegedly furnished drugs to a minor.

He was arrested after the Washington County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a minor at Narraguagus High School, who had been provided drugs. Seized as a result of that investigation were 22 pills containing hydrocodone and 3 small bags, containing a total of approximately 800 milligrams of a powder identified as containing fentanyl.

That investigation led to Bishop's arrest on Friday, February 5th, just after 4 p.m. Officials say he was arrested in Harrington without incident, with the assistance of the Washington County Sheriff's Office and Maine State Police. At the time of his arrest, agents searched his Cherryfield home, and seized 110 hydrocodone pills not prescribed to Bishop. He was taken to the Aroostook County Jail, where his bail was set at $50,000 cash.
