The State Fire Marshal's Office has released the identity of a man who died in an Orland house fire on Monday.

Officials say 40-year-old Sam Crawford's body was found in the rubble of the basement at around 11:30 last night. Crawford initially escaped the fire safely, along with four other residents. He moved his skidder to a neighbor's property and, when he returned, told the others that was going to look for his missing dog. The dog's body wasn't found.

The four people who survived the fire are 26-year-old Cassandra Morse, 19-year-old Alex Chaffee, and Crawford's two daughters  9-year-old Lillian Crawford and 5-year-old Ella Crawford.

Investigators say the fire started in the attached garage of the house shortly after a space heater was turned on.
