Veteran Accused Of Killing Dog On Video Found Dead
A veteran from Maine, who was accused of shooting her service dog multiple times while her boyfriend filmed it, has been found dead of an apparent suicide.
According to the Fayetteville Observer, 23-year-old Marinna Rollins was found early Sunday morning in her North Carolina apartment. She was out on bail when she died, after she and her partner, 25-year-old Jarren Heng, were charged by the Cumberland County (North Carolina) Sheriff's office with animal cruelty and conspiracy last month.
It was a story that shocked the nation as the pair allegedly tied her PTSD service dog to a tree and shot it multiple times while Heng filmed the entire incident. That video later made its way onto Rollins' Facebook page, where it was spotted by Sheriff's deputies.
The dog was originally named Huey and had been adopted by Rollins' estranged husband. He let her keep the dog when he was shipped overseas. The native of Windham, Maine renamed the dog Camboui and had it registered as an emotional service animal to help her deal with her PTSD and other mental health issues. Family and friends said she had suffered with emotional problems since a traumatic event while serving in South Korea.
Heng is due to make his first court appearance next week.
