Verona Incident Began As a Well-Being Check, Ended With 3 Arrests
An incident that brought multiple police agencies to Verona Island started as a well-being check and ended with three suspects in custody.
The Hancock County Sheriff's Office was contacted by a woman who said she was concerned about the well being of her friend. Deputies investigated the matter and learned that there was a very violent domestic violence incident that had been going on for several hours. They got a search warrant for the home at 22 Westside Drive on Verona Island and also an arrest warrant for Jeffery Witham.
Deputies tried to execute the search warrant at around 1:00 Thursday morning, but were unable to gain entry. After several hours, they called in the Maine State Police to help. Finally, at approximately 9:00 Thursday morning, law enforcement was able to enter the residence, where 41-year-old Nathan Dilworth of Verona island and Texas was arrested. He's charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. 37-year-old Lintisha Oliveras of Verona Island was also arrested on a charge of violation of condition of release. The search was completed, however Jeffery Witham was not in the home.
The investigation led deputies to Penobscot County, where they were assisted by the Bangor Police Department, Maine State Police, and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. Witham, 44, was finally located in Plymouth and arrested by State Police. He's charged with domestic violence assault, terrorizing with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault, domestic violence criminal threatening, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
