A man who's been on the run from a murder charge in Maryland is in custody after being arrested in Maine.

Maine Police Discover a Domestic Violence Suspect is Wanted in Maryland for Murder

Amir Johnson, 26, has been on the run for over two years after allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend in a parking lot and then fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

The fatal shooting of 27-year-old Shakeia Allen took place on April 21, 2024, in Nottingham, Maryland, in the parking lot of her apartment complex.

The U.S. Marshals Service asked for the public's help earlier this week, posting a reward of up to $5,000 for information that led to Johnson's arrest for first-degree murder.

Maryland Murder Suspect Arrested in Maine Over Two Years After the Crime

According to CBS News, Johnson was arrested in Auburn, Maine, on August 13, 2026, on charges of domestic violence assault and domestic violence aggravated assault for an incident that happened in April.

When Auburn Police ran the suspect's name, they discovered he had been wanted in Maryland on murder charges for nearly two years.

The Maine charges were dropped on August 14, when Johnson was in custody in Maryland.

Maryland Murder Suspect Arrested in Maine Had a History of Violence

Johnson and Allen had reportedly been in a relationship for years, but it was not a happy pairing.

The couple had several documented domestic violence incidents, according to CBS News, and had filed protective orders against each other.

The protective orders were never granted because both parties failed to appear in court.
