Dolly Parton died Tuesday, August 25, at age 80 in Nashville, Tennessee, with her family announcing the news on social media before it was confirmed by her representatives.

Her legacy stretches across decades of entertainment, philanthropy and literacy advocacy, including Dollywood and the Imagination Library, along with, of course, her music.

Her earlier Maine appearances included a stop in Bangor in the mid-1960s while touring with Porter Wagoner and a 2005 concert at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, now known as the Cross Insurance Arena.

Her most recent Maine performance came on June 18th, 2016, when she brought her “Pure & Simple” Tour to Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion in Bangor, the venue now known as the Maine Savings Amphitheater.
