Two Fires In One Day At Lincoln Paper Mill
The Lincoln Fire Department battled two fires at the old paper mill yesterday and are now working to determine whether they're related.
According to a post on the department's Facebook page, it was a busy Wednesday for firefighters who responded to a total of four calls. The day started just after 8:00 in the morning, when they were sent to York Street in Millinocket to help with a house fire. At 10:30, they were called to a minor fire on Sweet Road that was handled by a small crew, while the ladder truck was still in Millinocket.
Just before 3:00, the department received the first of two calls involving the old Lincoln Paper and Tissue mill. That first call involved a building fire at the weigh station, with heavy smoke showing. The crew make a quick knockdown and began their investigation. But, before they were done, smoke was spotted across the back side of the compound.
The final call of the day involved a large fire at the old mill store. Crews from East Millinocket, Medway, Mattawamkeag, Lee, Lowell, Burlington, Passadumkeag, Howland, and Milford helped Lincoln Fire, along with the Maine Forest Service and Lincoln Police.
The State Fire Marshal's office will now work to determine how the fires at the mill started and if they're related.
