Two people are facing drug charges after being spotted in the parking lot of an Augusta eatery.

Augusta Deputy Chief Jared Mills said in a press release that an off-duty State Police Trooper saw a suspicious vehicle just after 5:30 Wednesday evening in the parking lot of Red Robin. He notified authorities, who sent an officer to find the vehicle that had moved to the parking lot of Wal-Mart.

A search of the vehicle, with the help of a State Police drug K-9, turned up a total of 2.17 pounds of marijuana and about $420 in cash. 20-year-old Rory Kavanagh of Georgetown, MA and 24-year-old Nicholas Caponigro of Amesbury, MA were arrested and charged with Unlawful Trafficking of Class C Drugs. Caponigro was also charged with Criminal Forfeiture of Property.

Both suspects are currently being held at the Kennebec County Jail, unable to make bail.
