A tractor-trailer jackknifed on Route 202 in Alfred when the driver of the truck slowed down to avoid a collision with another vehicle.

Police say it happened when a vehicle ahead of the truck slowed down to turn left onto Brock Rd., near the Maine State Police Troop A Barracks.

They say the driver of the semi, Manuel Almanzar, slowed down to avoid a collision and the truck jackknifed in the middle of the road.

The cab of the truck was seriously damaged and the fuel tanks were punctured.

The Department of Environmental Protection and MDOT were called to the scene.

Almanzar was not hurt in the accident.

Part of Route 202 was closed for hours while crews cleaned up the accident.
