Results are in from a statewide student mock election, including their choice for the next Governor of Maine.

The mock election is held every year, as a way to encourage young people to take an interest in politics and the voting system. The highlight of the event is the 'Rally and Tally' at the Augusta armory, during which students collect election results from schools around the state, via phone or internet, and report them. In addition, they were also given a ranked choice voting presentation, craft booths, and opportunities to give stump speeches for their candidates.

Students from 62 schools chose Shawn Moody as the next Governor of Maine, Incumbents Chellie Pingree and Bruce Poliquin for the U.S. House of Representatives, and Angus King for the U.S. Senate. Question 1 and the four bond questions were all approved. Find the full results on the mock election website.

The event is hosted by the Secretary of State's office, and involves several candidates and representatives who address the students. This year's Rally and Tally event included students from Brooklin School, Cornville Regional Charter School, Hermon Middle School, Mt. View Middle School, Oak Hill Middle School, Tripp Middle School, and Walker Memorial School.
