A man from Maine has died as the result of an explosion at a Rockport business.

Police Have Released the Identity of the Deceased

Sean Rancourt, 39, died of injuries sustained in the explosion.

The Explosion at Rockport Steel Happened Friday Afternoon

It was just before 3:00 Friday afternoon when Fire and EMS personnel responded to an explosion at Rockport Steel. When they arrived, they found Mr. Rancourt with life-threatening injuries. He was treated by local EMS providers, but died at the scene. His body was transported to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Augusta, where an autopsy will be conducted.

Officials Say the Victim Was Welding Just Before the Explosion

An investigation into the circumstances of the incident determined that Mr. Rancourt was welding on a diesel fuel tank when it exploded.
