The Chief Medical Examiner has ruled the deaths of two people found in a burning house in Great Pond murder-suicide.

Did the Victims Know Each Other?

The deceased have been identified as:

  • Marie Robbins, 35, who lived in the Great Pond home
  • Ryan Devisme, 38, of Aurora

Both people were found deceased on Monday, May 20th. Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says Robbins and Devisme were in a former relationship together.

When Did the Fire Happen?

It was approximately 5:00 that Monday morning when the Aurora Fire Department responded to a house fire at 23 Old Dam Way in Great Pond. After the firefighters arrived on the scene, they notified the State Fire Marshal's Office because two bodies were discovered. Both bodies were taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where autopsies were conducted.

What Were the Circumstances of the Deaths?

As a result of that examination, the OCME has determined that while the cause of Ms. Robbins' death was not able to be determined, it was the result of homicide. Mr. Devisme had evidence of carbon monoxide poisoning and a gunshot wound to the head. Officials say the investigation suggests that Devisme set the house on fire before taking his own life with a firearm.
