Bangor police on Wednesday identified the officer and the suspect involved in last night's shooting on Outer Hammond Street.

Police identified the man who was shot as Joshua Jozefowicz, 23, of Hancock County. The officer involved in the shooting is Officer Ryan Jones, a six-year veteran of the police department.

Jones is on paid administrative leave, according to a release from the Bangor Police Department.

This incident, like all officer-involved shootings, is under investigation by the Office of the Attorney General.

The incident last night started when police pulled over a car near Leadbetter’s Convenience Store on Outer Hammond Street. Jozefowicz ran from the vehicle into some nearby woods, and police gave chase. Police have not said whether Jozefowicz was armed or threatened police. Witnesses say they heard at least 10 shots fired.

A woman was also arrested during the incident. Police have declined to confirm whether 25-year-old Kayla Massicotte was the woman in the car with Jozefowicz, but she was arrested near the scene of the incident last night. She’s charged with possession of heroin, possession of a Schedule Z drug, and a bail violation.

Records show that Jozefowicz was charged in 2013 with unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and violating conditions of release. In June of 2015, he was arrested on a probation revocation.
