The Aroostook County Sheriff's Office reports one of its deputies fatally shot a man in Mars Hill early Wednesday morning.

UPDATE: WABI-TV reports police have identified the victim as 28-year-old Jacob Wood. Deputy Isaac Wood is the deputy involved in the shooting. He's been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the Attorney General's investigation.

Deputies responded to a 911 call on Scovil Street just before 3:00. Few details have been released, but officials say deputies became involved in an armed confrontation with a man at the scene. At some point in that confrontation, the man sustained a fatal gunshot wound from one of the deputies.

Names of those involved have not been released, pending notification of next of kin. So far, there's no word about what sparked the altercation. The incident is under investigation by the Maine Attorney General's Office, which is standard practice in any officer-involved shooting.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
